"He makes me to lie down in green pastures"

Only the one who cares for us can find that perfect habitat for us. We can't really discover the perfect spot for the heart to rest and be nourished. We tend to see a place of abundance, our green pastures, as something to labor for all the more. But striving is not resting and the real blessing we need cannot be earned.

It is our Good Shepherd Who gave us the blessing and it is He Who keeps us in it. As our Creator fashioned the world, rested on the seventh day, and declared it "good", so He does for His flock the Church.

Resting in the benefits of God is good. Externally, we will work and labor in the field God has called us to, but in our spirit man we lie down in green pastures. We rest in the amazing finished work of Christ.

We trust God. We don't fuss over lack or the sin that caused it, because our Lord has caused us to rest. The Word of God has created a sanctuary we all share with our Lord... living pastures, endless provision. Thank you Lord.

Scriptural Context

Psalms 23:1-6 NKJV A Psalm of David. The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. (2) He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. (3) He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness For His name's sake. (4) Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. (5) You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over. (6) Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me All the days of my life; And I will dwell in the house of the LORD Forever.
